To establish the feasibility of producing efficient, social housing using home-grown softwood, Countryside Council for Wales in 2006 commissioned a study from Coed Cymru; Bangor University; and the Design Research Unit at Cardiff University.
This led to a proposal for a radical departure from current practice; a whole house construction system using engineered home-grown timber components designed to accommodate the characteristics of softwood timber grown in Wales.
Subsequent funding from a wide range of sources turned the feasibility study into reality.
